What to wear, what to take pay & play days? (Parkwood To
Just wondering what the best things are to bring to a pay & play day (tong this weekend) will obviously have myself vehicle, hilift jack, (planing on getting a decent tow rope and some shackles as well) docs and entery form as required by tong, but is there any food / drinks available? or is it sarnies and flask. are wellies / boots preferable to trainers, spare clothes?
do I need money for the on site steam cleaner?
anything else of use
thanks

Morgans and I have not been to a pay and play site in quite awhile now, as we do enjoy going out and finding the lanes, but..............highly recommend wellies/boots.....flask and food, as even if they have got a burger van there, you just never know what the food is going to be like, ohhhh and toilet roll just in case
Pay and play sites in general will have marshalls around to help you out if you get into trouble, are you going on your own or with a group?......... we always went with mates that way someone got into trouble, we just helped each other out, saved waiting for help from the Marshalls.
Camera is a must, as you need to come back and post lots of pics to share with the rest of us

Mk 1 eyeball and brain engaged first and foremost. Watch out for the idiots and be prepared to give them a wide berth.
Good recovery points are essential. I can not readily see the recovery points on the front of your disco
Hilift jack? Well if you must carry one learn how to use it correctly. They can be extremely dangerous I can not remember last time I used ours
Tow rope or recovery rope?? Learn the difference. There is a BIG difference
Probably best to take your own food so you can picnic it at will. A change of clothes/towel might be useful
Am working in Halifax this week so if you want to see what we have done to our vehicles give me a shout.

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated,
I have the standard towing hoop on the front of the chasis but plan on getting a tubular bumper with recovery points in the future, the highlift jack is in the boot i got it real cheap off ebay and its better than nothing but theres always the bottle jack under the bonnet. I will get a proper recovery rope and shackles but dont know if it will be here in time so may not have one by sunday.
Im going on my own but there will be some friendly lro forum members there by the sounds of it, so if anyone see's me stuck come and say hi!!

If that is the flat plate lash down eye then it is NOT SUITABLE FOR RECOVERIES
Sorry for shouting but i can find photos of these things twisted on a recovery
The forces involved in a recovery are a lot higher then towing. For towing you are talking about forces of a few hundred kilos, for recoveries a few tons

I never go off-road without a couple of kitchen rolls and a gallon of water.

A lash down/towing eye used for recovery. How long before someone gets a shackle inbedded in their forehead?
How not to use a shackle! The rope being used is a polypropylene rope (YUK) Note the baby shackle. The big shackle is probably a 3.25 tonne WLL shackle. The baby shackle? 2 tonnes or less
Another example
Don't use this method as an anchor point for a winch.
Sorry got carried away

Camcorder. AA card and id (needed when the AA come out). Make sure your camera batteries are charged too.
