Post towing
reverse ratio is too high, equivalent to 2nd gear, try to do all your manouvering in forward and only reverse in straight line.

I've never had any problems reversing with the caravan. Perhaps I've been lucky and not encountered any problems.

Fraid i side with simon, i do however find it higher geared than my D1 in reverse.
Ours is a 99 1.8p V plate, and ive used the front towing eye and dragged my D1 off the drive to jump start it and it did the job fine, and a D1 I THINK weighs approx 2.5t (ish) Wink

Embarassed totally forgot, its a Freelander 1 if it makes any difference Embarassed

I have to agree, I find mine a real good all rounder, it goes without saying it's never going to be as good as anything with a low box for real low speed manouvering but for an occasional towing vehicle it pulls and reverses excellently, and can get a horse box out of a field with minimum effort!

I find the only downfall with a Freelander is I'm constantly looking for other Land Rovers to add to my small fleet, but I fear that's the Land Rover bug and occurs whatever model you've got! Rolling Eyes

thanks guys, thats it remember now
i have to reverse blind side every time i put the van away so manouvering forward and reversing in a straight line isn't possable.
what about the auto box any problems there?

Check all 5 forward and 1 reverse gear works. What looks like an oil level plug on the rear of the Freelander 1, isn't. Take it off and you loose reverse gear. Some sell them on like this, or get them naffed up by garages servicing them, who don't know. Pics on ashcroft transmissions. If the auto is anything but smooth with progressive power, then walk away.
