Land Rover launch red hot and super cool Defenders (but not at home)

Posted: 4:21pm, 10 June 2009

The FIRE and ICE limited edition Defenders are certainly very eye catching, but you'll be lucky to spot one in the UK, they're for foreign markets only.

The limited-production Fire & Ice editions come packed with all the features they could fit in the Defender: Recaro buckets, leather and Alcantara trim, diamond-turned alloys, color-coded lights, glass sunroof panel, running boards and more - basically an SVX-style Defender but with a fancier paint job.

So why aren't they going on sale in the UK?
'We don't believe there's a strong enough market for them - especially a 'premium' Defender in an economic downturn,' says Land Rover.

The Fire edition comes in a special Vesuvius Orange metallic paint, the Ice edition in Alaska white, both offset by Santorini black keylines. Three model options will be available: 90 Hard Top, 90 Station Wagon and 110 Station Wagon. There will be no 90 Soft Top version.

French buyers will have to part with a minimum of €31,800 (£27,400). Only 20 of the 850 vehicles available will find their way onto the Dutch market, the rest will be spread across the following markets: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hong kong, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine.
