All new Land Rover Discovery 5 is revealed!
The fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery unveiled at the Paris Motor Show is lighter, sleeker and more capable off-road than ever before.
Land Rover’s latest Discovery is here.
Its more streamlined, less boxy, and its smoother curves make it a more refined-looking beast than the Discovery 4. To Land Rover’s credit, it looks pretty much the same as the Discovery Vision which they debuted at the New York Auto Show in 2014.
JLR UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks says: ‘The new vehicle takes absolutely everything that is great about Discovery from its design, its versatility, its go anywhere, do anything credentials and builds on them to make it better in every way.’
Its predecessor’s main flaw was its 2.5-tonnes weight. The new Discovery is nearly half a tonne lighter with the all-aluminium chassis shedding a whopping 480kg. But, despite the dramatic weight loss, it will still tow up to 3500kg. It’ll even help you out when reversing with a trailer too, with its semi-autonomous Advanced Tow Assist.
The all-new Discovery comes with three different engine options. An efficient twin-turbo, 2.0-litre SD4 Ingenium four-cylinder diesel, a twin-turbo 3.0-litre Td6 V6 diesel, and a supercharged 3.0-litre Si6 V6 petrol; which sounds fun. Economy-wise, Land Rover claims you’ll get 43.5mpg combined claimed (SD4), 39.2mpg (Td6), 26mpg (Si6) respectively.
There are seats for seven adults compared to the 5+2 in the previous Discovery – and you can fold those seats with a handy app on your phone called Intelligent Seat Fold Technology. More tech includes nine – yes nine – USB ports, four 12-volt charging points and all three rows of the seats are heated.
Four trim packs are available, plus a special ‘First Edition’ model, limited to just 600 examples. This will be available in the UK with exclusive features including unique etched map detailing on the aluminium trim for the doors and facia, unique badges, bold colour choices and a comprehensive list of equipment as standard.
Well there it is! The New Land Rover Discovery. Let us know your thoughts on the LRO Facebook page and look out for the full feature in the November issue of LRO – on sale Wednesday 5th October.
