Q.
I’m about to buy a Defender 90, to which I’d like to fit taller tyres than 205/80 R16. What would you suggest?

Depends how you intend to use the Land Rover. For standard road use, I’d go for the Michelin Latitude Cross in 7.50 R16, which is a standard factory fitment on the Defender 110. This tyre is about 60mm larger in diameter than a 205/80 (the precise difference depends on which make), so will give a bit of a lift. If your usage will be more mixed – say 50/50 off -road/on-road – go for 235/85 R16 Continental Cross Contact tyres and fit them on ‘Wolf’ 6.5x16in rims. These would give you the best of both worlds, offering good road manners and the valuable extra grip allterrains give you off-road.
