A couple of weeks ago my 2005 Freelander Td4 broke down when it lost all power. I called out the RAC, whose technician gave it a diagnostic check: the computer said it was a fuel pressure fault, so the Freelander was taken to a non-specialist garage.
At the garage, they said the same thing initially and it took them a week to find out that the problem was apparently caused by a fuel sensor – and this was only arrived at after they spoke to a mechanic from a specialist. When I went to collect the Freelander I was told that despite the vehicle being driveable the computer was still showing a fuel pressure fault but they couldn’t find out where it was.
The Freelander is a now a tad slower on the uptake. Yet, while I can live with that, at the back of my mind I still feel there’s something wrong with it.

Fuel pressure reading faults are very common on Td4 Freelanders and so garages change the fuel pressure sensor when it is the actual wiring at fault. This is such a common
problem that there is a repair harness for this very fault. The part number is YMQ503320, which costs about £35.
If you’re not too familiar with electrics, have this fitted at a garage; it should take only an hour or so to do.
