I’ve just bought a 2003 Freelander Td4 commercial. All has been well until recently, when it started to idle roughly. The problem exists only when the car is warm. It starts fine and doesn’t smoke.
I’ve read online that a few owners have experienced the same problem and changed many parts such as the filters, which I have also done, MAF (mass air flow sensor), EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve) and so on but had no success. Do you have any idea where to start with the problem?

This does sound like a fault with the injectors. Rather than just replacing them, you could first try a good injector cleaner and see if it helps. If not, you can remove the injectors and take them to a diesel injection specialist, who will be able to check them.
I’m guessing that you’ll find one or two are leaking and that this will be causing the rough idle and the disappointing fuel consumption. Andrew Varrall
