This LRO reader emailed LRO.email@example.com looking for help with his Freelander 1's temperamental engine management light and power fluctuation.
I own a 2005 Freelander Td4. It’s had an ongoing problem with the engine management light, which comes on whenever I accelerate at motorway speeds.
There’s then a reduction in power until I ease off the accelerator, which causes the light to go out and power to return. What’s up?

Pull the air filter out and try it past 75mph. Sensor faults will not go ‘on and off’ as you speed up and slow down. Faults will be memorised and cause the light to stay on if they are electronic. Faults with a mechanical origin may not be memorised.
You may have to attach a diagnostic tools to the OBD port, which will monitor engine parameters as you drive. When the light comes on a freeze button can be pressed and parameters analysed to find the fault.
