This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org to ask our experts for advice on fitting the steel exhaust manifolds from a P38 Range Rover to his Discovery 2 V8.
Can I fit steel exhaust manifolds from a P38 Range Rover to my Discovery 2 V8 4.0? Mine are cast and I’d prefer the steel ones, because I’ll be fitting a performance exhaust soon.
Stephen Haywood, Par, Cornwall
The 4.0-litre engine blocks of the P38 and Discovery 2 V8 are the same, so logically the manifolds are interchangeable. The downpipes differ, however – so if you fitted the downpipes from a different engine to your Discovery, the route they take may differ from the way it was with the original manifolds, which could cause fitment issues for the exhaust system.
As you intend to fit a performance exhaust, that would be a good time to fit a complete exhaust system with stainless steel ‘tubular header’ manifolds designed to fit your vehicle.
Specialist exhaust fabricators will probably be able to help you with this.
