This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org to ask David Long about issues with a Freelander 1's fuel pump.
My father has a 2004 Freelander 1.8 petrol. The engine management light has come on and the code is for the fuel pump. We have changed fuel filters and tried a secondhand fuel pump but the light is still coming on. The pump is from a dealer who assures us it’s good. The chassis number is SALLNABA74A299042 and the fault code is -PO170 fuel trail malfunction (bank 1).

If you are sure the used pump is good, check the system for any air leaks, particularly around the inlet manifold. Also check that the Lambda (O2) sensors are working correctly. The fault code suggests an air leak of some sort.
