Q.
I run a 1971 Series III 88-inch with a 2.5 normally aspirated diesel engine that I use to tow a trailer and my trials Land Rover. I have a wild idea about fitting a TDV6 from a Discovery in my Series. What do you think?

I haven’t come across anyone using a TDV6 for a conversion – we suspect the ECU and electronics would be a nightmare to sort out, and expensive.
Two much simpler and cheaper options would be either to buy a 90 or Discovery Tdi/Td5 to tow your trailer and keep the 88in as it is. Or, fit a 200Tdi or 300Tdi in it. They’re plentiful and cheap (ex-Discovery) and an easy swap for your 2.5 N/A. You’ll get another 40bhp (approx) and better mpg but it’ll put extra strain on your gearbox and rear axle, so you may need to fit bigger brakes.
If you’ve installed a TDV6 in a Series Land Rover, or you know someone who has, LRO would love to hear from you!
