This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org looking for advice on fitting cruise control to his Freelander 1.
Can cruise control be retrofitted to a manual 2005 Freelander 1 Td4 HSE? If so, which parts do I need to get hold of and how much would the entire modification cost?
James Wigham, Hull, East Yorkshire
I don’t think this is a practical proposition. Pricing all the bits (ECU, control switches, pedal switches, actuator) comes to more than £300. There’s even more to consider. Is the harness in place? Will you need programming by the dealer? That’s a lot of time, money and frustration for an uncertain outcome.
You can buy aftermarket cruise control kits but many are new-old stock and will work only with a cable accelerator. I’ve fitted these in the past and they work well.
