I’ve fitted a Discovery Tdi engine to my Series III gearbox; plus I’ve fitted Discovery diffs and 7.50 tyres. Do you think I’ve over geared it? Will it break halfshafts and gearbox shafts? Should I have fitted a five-speed box as well?
Terry Blakely, Maidstone, Kent
I don’t think you’ve overgeared it. Your Tdi should cope easily with it; be gentle with it and it should be okay. The weakest point is probably the rear halfshafts. If they break, fit heavy-duty ones. Consider upgrading your brakes - you sill have to stop! A 200Tdi Disco motor should thrive in a Series III. Just treat it with care!
