This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org to ask our experts where he could find skinny leaf springs for his Land Rover Series I.
I have a Series I 80-inch with all thin springs, which I want to change for new springs. Where can I find these springs?
J Fournier, Amiens, France
The narrow (1.in wide) springs pictured below are made to individual order by Jones Springs in Darlaston, West Midlands (jonessprings.co.uk). Each spring costs £156. Jones has all the bushes, U-bolts, etc that you need. However, springs are expensive things to transport – one spring weighs about 15kg and they need to be properly wrapped. A possible alternative for you
would be to collect a set of narrow springs (made in Italian steel) from Hendrik Vander Hoeven, who’s based less than 150 miles from you in Brussels.
His springs look very nice to me, and at €420 (about £310) for a pair they’re a similar price to the Jones springs. You can get bushes, etc from the usual UK dealers. If you want to get in touch with Hendrik, give him a call on +32 497 623132.
