This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org to ask Andrew Varrall about replacing a Land Rover Discovery 1 sunroof.
I have a 1998 Discovery 1 with the usual leaking sunroofs, so I’d like to remove the roof and replace it with one from a scrap vehicle that doesn’t have sunroofs. Is this straightforward job to do?

Quite the contrary – in fact, this is probably the most major job you can do on a Discovery body. I would suggest removing the sunroof assemblies and, after cleaning all surfaces, re-seal them to the car with silicone sealant. If you take a little care doing this, you won’t suffer any more leaks, assuming the drain tubes are all in good condition and not blocked.
