This LRO reader emailed LRO.email@example.com to ask Steve Jones about his Land Rover Discovery 2 and its temperature gauge issue.
The temperature gauge on my Discovery 2 has started to play up. During normal driving, the gauge would settle at halfway before dropping all the way back to zero. It has now failed altogether and never moves from its stop when driving. There is definitely water in the cooling system and it doesn’t appear to be overheating. Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to fix it?

The simplest and most likely fault is with the temperature sender. I suggest you replace it – make sure you have the correct part number when you’re ordering it. When the engine’s cold remove the cooling system filler cap, then the sender and replace. You can use a little sealer but don’t use PTFE tape.
