This LRO reader emailed LRO.firstname.lastname@example.org to ask Andrew Varrall about oil leaks coming from the engine bay of his Defender 90.
Since changing the engine oil in my Defender 300Tdi a few months ago, I’ve noticed leaks coming from the engine. Oil is coming from the cylinder head and penetrating along the block. The oil that I used is turbodiesel 15W-40.

I suspect it’s purely coincidence that you’ve noticed the oil so soon after an oil change. If you’ve cleaned the engine thoroughly and the oil is definitely coming from the front of the head gasket you’ll need to replace the gasket but make sure it isn’t running down from the rocker cover gasket as this is a far more common place for them to leak from.
