Ineos have revealed the pricing for the initial three Grenadier models to go on sale, with Head of UK Sales and Marketing Gary Pearson saying that the two-seater long wheelbase commercial will start from an ‘estimated £48,000,’ for the BMW petrol- and diesel-engined models. The five-seat commercial – the likely biggest seller – and five-seat passenger version will both be ‘starting in the early £50ks.’

Prospective buyers can now get online and make a reservation with a £450 refundable deposit – and by the time it comes off the production line in July 2022 the company says it will have a comprehensive dealer and aftersales network in place.

Says Gary Pearson: ‘Starting with a blank sheet of paper, we have a great opportunity to get this right. We will have a strong physical presence underpinned by powerful digital services.

What will the Grenadier dealer network look like?

They’re planning to have up to 200 worldwide sales and servicing partners, with 23 UK sales and service dealers and nine service-only locations through the established Bosch Service network – who they’ll also tie up with globally.

Their strategy is to have a diversity of dealers ‘in urban and rural locations’, making sure they’re located conveniently for their customers. They say that most customers will never be further than 30 miles from an Ineos-accredited workshop. And where spare parts aren’t on-the-shelf they’re targeting delivery within 24 hours.

As well as the Bosch aftersales tie-up, they’ve already signed up the large Cambria Automobiles group (who operate various UK dealerships), Compass Tractors (who deal with Fendt tractors and Isuzu 4x4s), plus JT Hughes (a Honda and Mitsubishi dealer in Telford).

There’s also potentially good news for the many smaller independent 4x4 repair specialists around the UK. ‘We’ll be welcoming them as well,’ says Gary Pearson. ‘They won’t be excluded.’

The digital operation will allow buyers to carry out the whole buying process on-line (including organising vehicle finance and handling part exchanges), book servicing and repairs, or access a digital parts catalogue and repair manual. ‘The customer can do it all on-line – or if they want face-to-face we will be there,’ says Gary Pearson.

‘We fully accept that most will want to try before they buy,’ says Mark Tennant, the Ineos commercial director, ‘for which having an extensive network on the ground is essential.’

Warranty and options packs

Ineos have now confirmed that the Grenadier will come with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty in the UK. And there won’t be any complicated option packs when ordering a vehicle – ‘just a simple list of options’, according to Gary Pearson. ‘We won’t be adding on tens of thousands of pounds to get the options that you want.’

The 75,000 people who previously registered as prospective buyers are able to place a build reservation from 30th September, and from 14th October reservations will be open to everyone.
