Though I don’t recall Chuck Berry singing about how it winds from ‘Whitehaven to Redcar’ Agh…A66
Wanting to do something a bit different the CLRC decided to roughly follow the trans-Pennine arterial road, keeping off the tarmac as much as possible. After a Saturday morning paddle at Whitehaven they split into two smaller, green lane friendly, groups for the start of their road trip.
After a day of stunning scenery and enjoyable laning including some water crossings, the two groups combined for a blast across the Pennines on the A66 to their camp site near Barnard Castle.
Sunday's mission was to complete the route towards Stockton and eventually Redcar. One minor difficulty was where one lane was fenced off at the far end, necessitating some protracted reversing. By mid-afternoon the two groups had reunited on the beach at Redcar enjoying a paddle in the North Sea.
