Membership of the Motor Sports Association and the Association of Land Rover Clubs (ALRC) enables members to access not only their own club events but also to those hosted by other Land Rover Clubs throughout the UK. Members attended various other Club’s RTVs, CCVs and Comp Safaris with members competing on the National stage, taking part in the Majors Memorial trail, the Mendips Challenge and the ALRC National Championships, where they have enjoyed a great deal of success over the years.
HBLRC have been involved in assisting the British Armed Forces Motoring Association (BAFMA) test the skills of their drivers with the setting up and running of navigational events and events similar to RTV trials. This division of the forces is currently under review but the club are looking forward to working with a soon to emerge new division.
Every November a key event in the club calendar is the Mike Wolfe Challenge, a winch challenge event for both ALRC and non-ALRC class vehicles. The event has proven to be very successful, stretching both the more experienced winch challenge specialists and the very bravest ALRC class drivers.
Running alongside of the motoring activities HBLRC also offer motorised support and assistance at several non-4x4 events. You may have seen them marshalling at the ‘Hampshire Horse Watch’, a cross country horse riding event with the proceeds being used to combat equine related crime as well as setting up Basingstoke’s ‘run for life’ event organised by Cancer Research previously featured in Club Zone.
The club committee are very proud of the mixture of activities the club gets involved in, and its members’ performances in various competitions dotted around the UK, but the real pleasure for them is getting out into the countryside in their Landys, spending time with likeminded people and making new friends. The level of support within the club is superb, the technical know-how seems to be endless and the willingness of one member to help another is astonishing. All this aside, with Hants & Berks it’s really just about having fun.
