The majority of their membership is mostly from the Southampton and Winchester area of Hampshire, with a number of members from further afield who travel to their events around Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.
They have a pub night once a month at the Empress of Blandings in Copythorne, where members get the opportunity to suggest future events as well as enjoying the club’s very social banter. For those that prefer their socialising on-line there is a regularly updated Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ShireLRC
They run events every month for all levels of drivers and also run two full weekend events a year at the very popular Seven Sisters in Wales. Most of their regular monthly events are of a pay-and-play style for road legal vehicles but occasionally they will run a photo punch-hunt for some added interest.
The club has a lot of members who also support the Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response group. This group is one of the largest in the UK and completed over 4000 miles of trips during the difficult weather conditions this year.
The committee is a keen group of longstanding members who meet bi-monthly to ensure the calendars, website and event bookings etc are all in hand. With such a large membership they feel it is vital to ensure that everybody is kept as up-to-date as possible via Facebook and an extensive member’s photo gallery at www.flickr.com/groups/slrc
The club’s quarterly magazine, Shire Drop, is brilliantly edited by Jen Rees. Jen, a busy working mum, is a master of delegation who always manages to coerce material from members to keep the mag topical and interesting.
Shire LRC is also very much aware of their carbon footprint being the first Land Rover club to fully offset the emissions generated at their events by having trees planted in the club’s name through eforests.com
