It draws members from Bridport to Portsmouth, and prides itself as being a family friendly Land Rover club.
There is a club social the first Tuesday of every month at the Sir John Barleycorn in Cadnam. Each month the usual chat about how to fix things and where to get spares makes way for the legendary chairman’s quiz with questions ranging from map symbols to James Bond films.
The club organises at least one greenlane or off-road event each month, but this often increases to two during the summer, or around bank holiday weekends. These can range from scenic family drives for shiny vehicles, to more challenging play-day events outside the summer months giving opportunities for the more hardcore vehicles and drivers to indulge themselves.
The club is always seeking new play sites for its members, despite having a fair selection, including at least two visits a year to Bunny Lane, Romsey and Mannington, New Forest, and at least one visit to Canford, New Forest, Nellies Dell, West Meon and Brick Kiln, Alton. It works with other off-road clubs allowing their members to reciprocally attend each other’s events to allow access to a bigger range of sites and activities.
Another string to its bow is the club’s camping trips. Each year in the school holidays there is a week of greenlaning fun, normally in Wales. The views across the top of the mountains are so popular that the club is going back in August for yet another visit. They will spend five nights in North Wales, then three in Mid to South Wales, camping on two different sites.
Alongside the Wales trip, there is one play-site camping trip each year, with a weekend camping on the off-road site itself, and an additional weekend of pure camping and green lanes. As well as driving and camping the club has a strong social side including; duck races, skittles nights, a steam fair, auto jumble, the list goes on.
Newcomers say ‘the club is welcoming and helpful, giving advice and guidance when needed, without making them feel just on the outside of an exclusive club.’
