The 140 registrants, from three countries and 19 states including two former Camel Trophy competitors enjoyed three days of trails and challenges around Sedona Arizona. An area that will be familiar to movie fans as the location for about 200 Westerns.
The highlight of the event, the Saturday night presentation of the star raffle prize, a fully restored and off-road prepped Disco One turned out to be slightly anti-climactic. The winner, Chris Black from Winslow AZ, was not in attendance. The organisers did however manage to track him down the following day. He immediately dropped what he was doing (apparently he was not standing on a corner) to high-tail it with his sons the 90 miles back to the event to pick up his new truck.
Every 2-3 years the WNLRR will be passed club to club, state to state, and hosted by one of the different sponsoring organizations, thus offering a fresh scenic location around the West. Sign up at wnlrr.com to get notifications about the next one.
There will be a full event report in a forthcoming issue of LRO.
