The LRO Spring Adventure has been a firm favourite with Land Rover fans since the very first event in 2002 and last year, 10,000 visitors poured in from all over the UK and Europe. It's on this weekend - May 8 and 9.
Drive Stuff! The off-road course is once again under the experienced eye of LRO Adventure Club leader Vince Cobley and his ProTrax team. New for this year are free radiator protectors for each Land Rover tackling the course. There's a new item for this year, The Land Rover Auto Test. R&C 4x4 has prepared a 300Tdi Discovery auto, limited to 4mph to provide a tricky test of trust and skill. We’re challenging the clubs to enter blindfolded drivers and ‘sighted’ navigators to drive the Discovery around a testing obstacle course – strictly full driving licence holders only.
Buy Stuff! If you’re looking for the latest new kit for your Land Rover, you’ve got a treat in store – all the big names have signed up, including Allisport, Anchor Supplies, Nene Overland, R&C 4x4, Td5Alive, Twisted Performance and Cheviot 4x4, which is unveiling a new winch in an exciting arena display. There's also have ample opportunity to pick up a bargain at the big autojumble, run by the Northern 4x4 Spares Weekend team. The show is sponsored by Silverline 4x4 and Cooper Tire, so look out for a huge display of fantastic wheels and tyres – and some very special offers.
?Watch Stuff! More than 45 of the country’s best-known national and regional clubs have already booked space in the huge club display area and there’ll be great arena action, Other must-see arena action includes The Flatdog RTI (Ramp Travel Index) ramp; see how far you can drive up the ramp before your suspension runs out of travel. There will be winch challenge demos, with the help of LRO’s Neil Watterson and Mark Saville.
Restoring Stuff! The LRO restoration is always a huge hit but this year it’s going to be even better, especially for the lucky reader who wins the vehicle later in the year. We’re transforming a tired, worn-out old 90 into one of the most desirable Defenders – a 1998 300Tdi hard top, County-spec with tax, MoT and insurance, ready to drive away. This project takes its bow at Driffield, where the vehicle will be on display. We’re looking for your ideas, so tell us how you would rebuild it. ?The job will start immediately after the Spring Adventure and, by the time it appears at the LRO Billing Show (July 16-18), it will be a gleaming, rolling galvanised chassis complete with mint bulkhead and new front panel. The rebuild will be finished at the LRO Show in Peterborough (September 11-12), where the winner will be presented with the keys. The rebuild wouldn’t be possible without backing from Allmakes, Ashcroft, Polybush and show sponsors, Silverline 4x4 and Cooper Tire. Polybush will be there to answer your queries about the best suspension bushes for your Land Rover.?
Gassing stuff! Driffield will be home to yet another new feature, the LPG Masterclass. Come and see how the professionals fit an LPG kit to a V8 Discovery. Mark Wain from Norfolk autogas specialists WCR LPG will be there to answer all your questions. Name look familiar? WCR converted our Rob McCabe’s V8 Disco, as featured in LRO.
