The LRO editorial team are taking part in Convoy for Heroes at Gaydon, on Easter Sunday. The Guinness World Record attempt for the longest convoy of Land Rovers will take place on Jaguar Land Rover’s test track in Warwickshire. John Pearson will be in his Discovery 3, Watty in the the LRO 90, Mark Saville at the helm of his Series I, Plimsoll, and Peter Skilton and his newly refurbished 110 HiCap are all taking part. Come along and support this charity event and meet the entire LRO editorial team.
Convoy for Heroes is all about the Land Rover community doing its bit for those who have done their bit for us; men and women injured while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. While supporting the charity Help for Heroes, and raising as much money as we possibly can, we plan a Land Rover event which offers fun for all the family.
The event is being held over the Easter weekend 2011 - April 23 to 24. It is being held at Gaydon Heritage Museum, in Warwickshire. This is a very centrally located location and easily accessible from the motorway network.
Why Convoy for Heroes? Because the core event will be a convoy! The organisers are proud to announce that the convoy will be led off by the first-ever production Land Rover - HUE 166 - thanks to the Heritage Motor Centre for lending this vehicle. More than that, it will be an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the longest Land Rover procession, set in April 2004 when 260 Land Rovers made their way round Towcester race course. We think we can do a bit better than that under the conditions set by Guinness World Records and are aiming for 350.
Based round this core event will be plenty of entertainment and attractions for the whole family throughout the weekend. There will be plenty of food and drink on offer, evening entertainment and something to keep the kids amused. What's more Guy Topsom of SKYTAG has been in touch to let us know that Skytag is to track Convoy for Heroes live.
Vehicle security and tracking specialists Skytag GPS is pleased to announce that in partnership with the organisers of Convoy for heroes they will be providing live tracking of the Guinness World Record attempt for the Land Rover convoy to be held at Gaydon. Around 350 vehicles will be taking part with many more visiting Gaydon to lend their support. Skytag will have tracking devices at the front (Well almost, HUE 166 wasn't deemed to be the most suitable of partners for satellite technology!) and the very last Land Rovers in the line up. Live coverage will be shown on Skytag stand at the event itself and also live online – a link is available from www.skytag-gps.co.uk click here for Skytag link or at http://tinyurl.com/3pdbmy7. click here for Skytag link
As well as tracking the organisers' vehicles, Skytag will also be offering to track participating existing customers vehicles as well as anyone purchasing a Skytag tracker before the event. Managing director Guy Topsom commented, ' We're all really excited about the Convoy for Heroes event, although we've tracked large events lasting weeks and covering continents, the fact that its a record attempt and the most worthy causes makes this special.’
