The Scottish 'Borders' Hill Rally will take place on 19-20th November 2011, at the same place as last year, the Forrest Estate, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. Even before the 2010 event had finished, Brian Hilditch, the Estate Manager, and driver of Car 0, had invited the rally back for 2011. It was an invitation the Scottish Borders Hillrally Club was delighted to accept.??Blessed with some high profile names in the Rally world volunteering to be involved, the event is shaping up to be at least as good as last year. SHRC Chairman Ian Stuart said, 'Comp Safaris are brilliant, a great social event for people who like fast cars and the place to learn how to drive quickly off road, however Hill Rallies are a different kettle of fish because competitors don't get to walk the course before they race, and given that no stage is run more than twice, they can't be learned. Another difference is the whole time issue, 'Comps' are very relaxed and one can get your laps in to suit yourself but Hill Rallies are very time-oriented, and there are penalties for being late... or early!'
He believes that, 'In a comp, the driver is king. In a Hill Rally, you need a good driver, a good navigator, and a good service crew!'??The 'Borders' is designed to introduce the Competitive Safari driver to the ideas of Hill Rallying, and to this end we are reserving five places on the entry list for novice crews (where neither driver or navigator have competed in a Hill Rally before).?The SBHC has plans for over 100 miles of competitive miles, with more variety than 2010, for the same money as 2010.
The Event Regulations will be out soon, so check out www.scottish-hillrally.co.uk/ for the latest news.
