his year the annual Charity Land Rover Run from Kent to Ardres in France had a record entry of 41 classic Series Land Rovers all registered between 1948 and 1973. The group convoyed from the Calais ferry terminal the 30 miles to Ardres. They took the coastal road via Cap Blanc Nez for a photo stop, before heading inland through the French countryside. At Cap Blanc Nez, several other Series Land Rover owners from French Series 2 Club joined the party increasing the convoy to 48 vehicles. click here for LRS2C
After exploring the market town of Ardres, participants met for a Charity Auction, hosted by Richard Beddall. Over 40 lots were up for grabs including a £100 voucher donated by Phil Bashall, of Dunsfold Land Rovers. The auction proved to be very popular with our friends from France and Belgium. In total £1,423 was raised following the auction and a collection on the ferry. This year’s Charity Fund now stands at £3,316 before individual sponsorship so takes the grand total for the past three years to over £12,000.
The auction was followed by a Rally Awards ceremony sponsored by Mike Clark of Luckin and Clark, Structural Engineers and at 6.30pm the convoy left Ardres for the short 20 minute drive back to Calais. The ferry departed on time, and the sun had shone all day, after weeks of storms and very wet weather.
