The course – sponsored by Britpart, and designed by off-road gurus Vince and Edd Cobley – is approximately 40 acres in size – this might not sound like much but with 80% of it being useable, this makes it one of the UK’s top off-road sites. With hard-packed sand in a lot of areas, Yarwell Quarry is an “all weather” site and most of its features are useable all year, although currently there is little water in the lake!
So what can you expect when you arrive on site this weekend? Firstly, a vast open area with plenty of room for parking. On first viewing you might think “blimey, there’s not much here”, but it is like the Tardis! Around every corner or through each valley and wooded turn something new opens up: hidden gullies, technical sections, wooded drives, an array of mounds with drops and climbs to keep everyone happy, axle twisters, soft sand, water, a small lake, wading sections, mud (glutenous and deep!), rock climbs, awesome drops and climbs. There are also many viewing areas to watch the mad and adventurous at play!
Edd, with the help of his trusty JCB, has worked his magic to design and build some exciting new sections. He’s marked out a 2.3mile off-road course that will twist and turn its way around the site making sure that you drive the more exciting and technical features of the site. There are bypass loops for those who do not wish to tackle various sections, as well as mud/water runs and red route options for those who want to be more adventurous!
Our team of experienced marshals will be on site to offer humour(!), advice, recovery and help guiding you through the ups and downs of every corner. A word of warning though, if you go into the mud please expect to put your own recovery rope on, my washing bill for the marshals is getting too expensive!
