All Race 2 Recovery teams completed yesterday’s 585km first stage between Rosario and San Luis, with Harris and Evans in car no. 395 improving their position from 91st to 86th.
Today, Stage 2 sees the teams tackling 737km of punishing terrain from San Luis and San Rafael. After a total of thirteen stages in Argentina, the teams will move on to stages in Bolivia and Chile.
Their vehicles - two Bowler Wildcats and a T4 Renault Kerax truck - arrived in Argentina on December 27th after 19 days at sea. The teams themselves flew to Argentina on New Year’s Eve, where the mechanical team set to work preparing their vehicles for the gruelling races ahead. ‘It’s hot and wet but they are like pigs in poop!’ the team posted on their Facebook page.
The two Wildcats are driven by Ben Gott and Philip ‘Barney’ Gillespie in car no.424, with Quin Evans and Tony Harris piloting no.395. Chris Astles, Mark Cullum and Daniel Whittingham are behind the wheel of the Renault truck. They join a total contingent of 431 competitors.
