Funds are being raised for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue team in memory of Shaun Bowden, following his tragic death in the area last year. Event organizer Bobby Willis said: ‘My good friend Shaun Bowden died last March while we were walking with friends in Scotland, leaving behind a wife and two young children. The Glencoe Mountain Rescue team were fundamental in his search and recovery, and the volunteers who make up their team risk their lives in awful conditions for 100's of people each year. So we have made it our mission to try and give something back to them.’
With the help of other supporters, Willis has already raised £16,579.01 through events such as climbing Mont Blanc, and running the Penny Can, and the Maraathon des Sables.
The Bowden Big Weekender convoy leaves Birmingham on Friday 3 October, journeying through the Lake District en route to its ultimate destination in Glencoe on Sunday 5. Talks will be given by famous adventurers, foragers, the Mountain Rescue Team themselves, and the event will come to an end with ‘a big knees up’ – all for charity.
