In addition to the only Land Rover show appearance for Bowler Motorsport and the Defender Challenge, a gigantic winch challenge course in our Live Action Arena, plus 25 years of Discovery celebration, Polybush Live Workshop rebuild and Britpart-sponsored off-road course, we’re excited to announce these additions to the Peterborough show bill:
Team Gigglepin’s Ultra 4 Defender
Fresh from a dominant victory in the Rainforest Challenge in Portugal, front-running Ultra 4 off-road racing competitor Jim Marsden will be demonstrating the awesome power and unstoppability of Team Gigglepin’s comprehensively rebuilt Land Rover Defender racer.
With a 104-inch chassis, 500bhp-plus Chevrolet LS3 V8 power, and a six-speed sequential Quaife gearbox, it’s lighter, longer, more powerful and has a lower centre of gravity than in its previous giant-killing form, and must rank as one of the most highly developed competition Land Rovers in the world.
On the Saturday only, Jim will be tackling the winch challenge course set out by John Lawn, Flatdog and Kirton Off-Road Centre, and lapping the speedway arena. Straight after the show, Jim and the Kent-based Gigglepin team will be heading back to Portugal for the final round of the European Ultra 4 Championship.
Camel Trophy vs G4 Challenge: rematch
The Sandglow Yellow Camel Trophy and Tangiers Orange G4 Challenge vehicles attract bees like a honeypot – for most Land Rover owners they epitomize the heroic spirit and go-anywhere capability that every Land Rover should have.
In LRO’s June 2014 issue we pitted the Camel Trophy and G4 Challenge Owners Clubs against each other with a series of testing challenges. And they’re both coming this weekend, to re-enact the duel. Camel won on the day of our feature, but who will emerge victorious at the end of the weekend? Watch them do battle in the arena, and check out their club stands – you may even spot a Camel/G4 veteran or two… Guest appearances will include ex-G4 competitor Brian Reynolds (2006 G4 Team Spirit winner) and 2003 G4 winner Rudi Thoelen.
Go Beyond bursary winners’ 110
On the Sunday only, Mark Allan, the leader of a scientific team who won this year’s Land Rover/Royal Geographical Society (with IGB) Go Beyond bursary will be bringing along the Land Rover Defender 110 supplied as part of the prize – featured in our latest issue.
Find out more about how he and his team used it to map the Alps using a hexacopter that takes off and lands from the roof of the 110!
Learn bushcraft skills
We are pleased to welcome Woodland Ways to our show this weekend, offering a variety of demos and workshops including; Shelter Building, Fire Lighting and Carving. So be sure to visit the LRO stand to learn a new survival skill this weekend.
More big names are back
Last year we welcomed back Silverline 4x4 to our Peterborough show, and this year we’re delighted to have Exmoor Trim and John Craddock Ltd rejoining the roster of leading Land Rover traders at the show. If there’s something you need for your Land Rover, you’re bound to find it here.
