This weekend’s action will decide the season, after the previous round at Cambrian Rally saw Edd Cobley (driving for Team Harford) lose his Bowler 90 on a slippery corner and miss his chance to secure the championship (see LRO’s January issue for the full story). Only one point now lies between them and Race2Recovery; Dakar veteran Ben Gott has piloted team R2R to five podium finishes under the guidance of co-driver Stephanie Boddez, who uses prosthetic limbs after losing both her legs to meningitis.
‘I’ve heard some great things about the Borders Hill Rally, and after coming second in the Welsh Hillrally earlier in the year, we think it should suit us and we can do very well there,’ says Stephanie. ‘It’s exciting to be in contention for the championship and we’ll try to push Edd all the way in Scotland.’
Borders Hillrally is one of the season’s two hillrallies, presenting the drivers with rougher terrain than the usual stage rallies. At the Welsh Hillrally in July, two Defender 90s ended up on their side. Will there be similar carnage this weekend?
