Eleven Bowler 90s will join the wide range of hardcore competition trucks – mostly Land Rover-derived – that characterize this punishing hillrally. Hosted by the Scottish Hill Rally Club at the 11,000-acre Forrest Estate near Castle Douglas, this is one of the highlights of the British off-road motorsport calendar and the climax of the 2015 hillrally season.
Sturgess driver Edd Cobley will be seeking to further his comfortable lead and clinch his second championship win, with Gareth Carruthers in the Lookers car fighting to close the gap between them. Expect a hard-won battle for third place, with three teams (Northern Ireland Racing, Palmer and The Defenderists) separated by just three points.
Bowler’s new V6 Defender 110, now famous for its awesome exhaust note, will also be screaming through the Scottish hills, although competing in a different class from the TDCi 90s. (We can’t wait to see V6 110’s competing next year in a new class of their own, which will expand the championship’s horizons to include more rallies both in the UK and overseas.)
Due to the large area covered by Borders Hillrally, it’s not ideal for spectators. Keep an eye on LRO.com for the weekend’s results!
