As Britain shivers in the grip of the worst winter for over 30 years, motorists are fighting back against the big freeze. Sales of 4x4 vehicles are on the up as car buyers opt for all-wheel instead of no-wheel drive. With the long term forecast suggesting parts of the UK may remain snowbound for up to a month, it seems the country’s drivers are getting a grip and trading up to all terrain models according to used car supermarket, Carcraft. “We’ve seen a move to 4x4 vehicles for a few weeks now” says Sales Director Mike Walsh. “The extraordinary weather we’re having just seems to have accelerated things. People simply need to get to work and lead their normal lives and a 4x4 lets you do that. As many modern 4x4s no longer fall into the gas guzzling category, motorists are also finding that they can get out and about without paying a premium at the pumps." Carcraft has a choice of 4x4 vehicles available from true off-roaders to SUVs and modern ‘soft-roaders’. Carcraft has grown from a single showroom in Rochdale in the 1950s to become one of the UK’s largest used car sales groups with eleven showrooms across England and Wales.
Autoquake.com are also offering car buyers a chance to defeat the bad weather and save money with a cut-price 4x4. The on-line car retailer has a wide range of off-roaders and SUVs for sale to suit all needs and all budgets. “The current spell of severe weather isn’t just bad news for individuals: it’s estimated to be costing the UK economy £230million per day because employees can’t get in to work*,” said Autoquake.com’s founder, Fredrik Skantze. “All across the country, 4x4 owners are getting places where conventional cars can’t.”
He added that 'a luxury SUV costs less than you’d think. A 56-plate Land Rover Discovery TDV6 SE automatic with 13,312 miles on the clock is for sale at £22,470, saving £2280-£2935 on the Parker's price.'
Between the beginning of December and the start of January the number of potential buyers searching for a 4x4 on Autoquake.com has risen by 137%, showing that the wintery weather has increased interest in these go-anywhere models. “Car buyers can find 4x4s on Autoquake.com which are keenly priced and will keep them on the move, whatever this winter throws at them,” said Skantze.
