The Autopia Service Centre in Darwen, Lancashire, is believed to be the first self-service, DIY vehicle workshop in the northwest region. It has been established by a classic car enthusiast who amassed a range of tools and equipment whilst building his own classic sportscar and wanted to provide a low-cost DIY service to other enthusiasts who want to control their maintenance costs and might not have their own facilities and tools.
The workshop has four workbays, two hydraulic ramps, the first is a 5.5 tonne four-post and the second a 4 tonne two post, hourly prices start at £7.00 plus VAT for the bays without ramps, £10.00 plus VAT for the bays with ramps. Customers are welcome to bring their own tools but can hire a standard set for £5.00 plus VAT per hour up to a maximum of £25, which also gives access to a range of shared tools and equipment. Specialist tools are also available including an OBD fault reader, shotblast cabinet, Waxoyl gun, brake tools and a crane/transmission jack.
For individual members of recognised car clubs we are happy to offer a 10% discount on the final price (workspace and tool rental only) on presentation of a current membership card and there are 'Autopia Club Days', which allows a car club to rent the whole of the workshop at a discounted rate for the full day. This means the club can bring as many vehicles to the workshop as they choose, swapping vehicles in and out as required and using all bays - members will be able to share jobs and technical expertise, assisting each other when required although some conditions apply of course.
