Emirati adventurer, Elham Al Qasimi reached the North Pole, making her the first Arab Woman to do so after training with a Range Rover. She didn’t be driving to the Pole emulatingf Toyota and some UK TV presenters, but Land Rover Middle East and UAE dealers Al Tayer Motors sponsored her unassisted and unsupported successful expedition to the Geographic North Pole which began earlier this month. ?Elham left the United Arab Emirates on 11th April and the ski journey took three weeks. During the gruelling training regime which seemed to involve pulling a lot of Land Rovers, she was given a 2010 Range Rover Sport. ‘Land Rover's sponsorship of my North Pole expedition is a testament to its strong commitment to support and partner with individuals that embody the same sense of spirit and adventure that shines through its cars,’ she said. ??‘I am very proud that Land Rover is my partner in this because it has a history of supporting successful adventure expeditions. By allowing their brand and name to be associated with adventurers who are breaking pre-conceived notions and boundaries and stretching the limits of human endurance and strength, Land Rover shows that it passionately believes in the same indomitable attitude and spirit,’ she added.??
Elham al Qasimi made history by becoming the first Arab woman to reach the North Pole. Ms al Qasimi arrived at 90 degrees North four days ahead of schedule. A helicopter then took her to Longyearbyen in Norway where she was met by her father. After she recuperates, she will return to her home in Dubai. Despite being in the Arctic, Ms al Qasimi, kept in contact with supporters through her website. Her first day of skiing on April 17 was a shock, despite months of training and preparation. She wrote, 'My legs are strong, my endurance level is fine, but the cold brings you to your knees faster than you’d imagine, if not managed correctly.' The next night she awoke to 'an alarming ‘tsh tsh tsh’ noise' outside her tent. After listening carefully, she woke her guide and signalled to him that a polar bear was outside. Sleepily, he said that it was the flag outside blowing in the wind!
