The Rhino Fence in the Salient region of the Aberdare National Park in Kenya was officially commissioned in March by President Mwai Kibaki. Of particular interest to 4x4 enthusiasts is that via the Kenyan Rhino Charge, together with its much smaller UK counterpart, £4,239,759 - 66.66% - of the total of £6,360,215 raised to date for the construction of the fence. At the ceremony two plaques were unveiled by the president – one to commemorate the event and the other with the message, 'Our great mountain forests are the ‘water towers’ and the ‘lungs’ of our beloved Kenya. They and the precious flora and fauna within them must be sustainably managed and conserved for all Kenyans and as a global heritage for all time.' Details can be found on www.rhinoark.org
