The Croisière Blanche has been in trouble before, its not the first time that environmental campaigners have tried to get the competition scrapped due to their perceived 'destruction of the environment'
But this year it looked like they had succeeded. On December 23rd an order was granted to ban the event.
However a large group of off-road vehicles seem to have gathered at the same place that the CB would have started and decided to drive the same route. While not officially taking part in the banned event and carrying no visible identification to link them to the event it is more than pure coincidence.
The federation France Nature Environment (FNE) requested the intervention of the Minister of Environment and the new Secretary of State for Ecology Chantal Jouanno but as the original Croisière Blanche was due to end today (30th January) its is not clear what they can achieve.
The debate will surely continue in France whether this was normal Gallic defiance of authority, a pure coincidence or an illegal gathering.

Bloody do gooders, go back into obscurity where you belong and let people have some fun.
