The Land Rover Series One Club for owners of 1948-58 Land Rovers held its second annual National rally at Ripon Racecourse over the weekend of June 26/27. Well over 100 Series Ones were in attendance and eligible for the club's annual trophies. One of these trophies, the Ken Poole Memorial Trophy is awarded to the owner of a well used and driven vehicle. This year it was awarded to Mark and Julia Saville simply because their Series One, nicknamed Plimsoll because of its registration number PSL 193, is a travelled Land Rover. LRO Staffer, Mark, of course, regularly documents Plimsoll's travels in LRO magazine.
Mark and Julia, like many other attendees, drove their Series I to the rally at Ripon and, with the list of destinations achieved listed on Plimsoll's tailgate everyone agreed it was a deserving winner of the trophy.
The club held its AGM at the rally and ran a fun gymkhana on the Sunday of the weekend. Everyone was in agreement that the rally was a great success and it was blessed with plenty of sunshine.
