An LRO reader wanted to give his Series III to charity and Mark Saville at LRO mentioned this in the magazine to ensure the vehicle donation was possible and that it was given to a worthwhile charity or organisation. In the end Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Search and Rescue (YALSAR) were drawn successfully and that handover took place in Dundee on Saturday July 31. Brett and Scotty of YALSAR had a long train journey from the Spalding area but hopefully they thought it worthwhile and that the vehicle would be an advantage in some way to their extremely important operations.
Peter Stevenson, who gave the Land Rover away, offered his thanks and my admiration to everyone else who contacted as there are some great people out there prepared to do their best to help others. The response was amazing but Peter had a major problem in that my phone locked out first day on holiday and I couldn't respond to phone calls or access voicemail for nearly 3 weeks. There are too many now to attempt responses but would wish all to know that I did get recent voicemail access and that hopefully everyone up till early last week was considered. Have managed I think a return to all e-mails. I believe the YALSAR team are intending to use the machine at various fundraising and Land Rover events over the next few months and sincerely hope that FHV 868V will provide some assistance in raising their profile and sponsorships. Peter and his wife Jackie said that they were extremely pleased to meet Brett and Scotty who are part of that great band willing to give a large part of their lives in the helping of others.??
