India: The Land Rover Evoque five-door which was revealed at the Paris Motor show earlier this year will be going to India next year. The car will go through completely built unit (CBU) channels and will attract an import duty of 110 percent. Tata Motors plans to introduce it as an entry level Range Rover so the prices will be quite competitive. In the UK the car sports a price tag of £30,000 (Rs 21 lakh) add to that, import duty and you get the approximate Indian sale price. 'Evoque will be laun ched in India next year. It’s a very stylish, good-looking car that will have its own niche segment in the market, meant for people who can afford it and for whose lifestyle it fits.' Los Angeles, California: The five-door version of the all-new Range Rover Evoque made its global public debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17, 2010. With its stylish and sporting appearance, enhanced by extra practicality and greater family appeal, the five-door Range Rover Evoque joined the stunning coupé model to create a line-up that will transform the premium compact SUV segment. Like the coupé, the five-door Range Rover Evoque remains faithful to the spirit of the groundbreaking Land Rover LRX concept car, offering an innovative new interpretation of the original cross-coupé design. 'The addition of the 5-Door to the Range Rover Evoque line-up extends the appeal of our brand still further,' said Land Rover’s Managing Director Phil Popham. 'While retaining everything that’s great about the Range Rover Evoque coupé, this new five-door bodystyle will offer customers even more choice, greater practicality, versatility and flexibility. The launch of the Evoque in 2011 will expand and revitalise the global appeal of the Range Rover marque.'
New Zealand: Land Rover Discovery 4 – 4WD of the Year! The Land Rover Discovery 4’s ability to cover all the bases has seen it win New Zealand 4WD magazine’s 4WD of the Year award. With a choice of a new three-litre, turbo diesel, V6 engine or a five-litre V8 petrol motor, both mated to a six-speed, automatic gearbox and Land Rover’s Terrain Response four wheel drive system, the Discovery 4 drew praise for its all round ability. The winner had to be 'a vehicle that we could shop with, take the kids to school in, tow with and even go to the theatre in,' said NZ 4WD editor, John Oxley. 'But most of all it had to be able to take us to the most extreme parts of New Zealand and in as comfortable a manner as possible.'
Most models come with leather upholstery and a long list of standard features that are generally only found in luxury cars. Mr Oxley said 'the Discovery 4 combined all the attributes the magazine was looking for. It’s stylish, comfy, has a great engine and gearbox, superb 4WD system and enough ground clearance to drive a bus under when the air suspension is all wound up.' The Land Rover Discovery 4 is available in four models, priced from NZ$91,990.

Southport, England; An amateur footballer, who drove his Range Rover onto the pitch and headed towards the referee who had sent him off has been jailed. Joseph Rimmer, who was playing in a Sunday League game, swore at referee David Harkness and threatened him and as he walked off told another player he was going to run the ref over. He then drove his vehicle across one pitch, where another game was taking place, and onto the pitch where his team were playing causing terrified players and spectators to scatter. He did 'doughnuts, twice spinning his vehicle around in 360 degree circles, and then got out and made the shape of a gun with his hand and threatened to shoot Mr Harkness. Jailing him for 24 weeks Judge Brian Lewis said, 'This was a disgraceful incident and the message must go out that people who undertake this sort of voluntary activity in public must be protected against this sort of conduct. It will not be tolerated and that message must be absolutely unequivocal.'?Judge Lewis said that Rimmer 'did not like some of the decisions he (the referee) made but that does not even begin to be a justification for what you did that day.'?Rimmer, who pleaded guilty to affray, claimed that he drove onto the Portland Street public pitches in Southport, Lancashire, to get the game abandoned but the judge said he did not accept that. Liverpool Crown Court heard a witness describe how Rimmer did ‘donuts' in the penalty area of the pitch. Players of both teams were running and scattering. There was a genuine feeling of panic and fear and people were taking evasive action to avoid being hit by the vehicle.?
