The Bay Search And Rescue (BSAR) team was recently seen in the LRO booklet entitled Coastal Greenlanes with one of their two Hagglund BV206 tracked amphibious rescue vehicles. BSAR is an all Terrain Rescue Team working in partnership with Cumbria Fire and Rescue. It specialises in quicksand rescue and support them with our Hagglund BV206 all terrain amphibious rescue vehicles, 4x4s and trained personnel. The team also assists the Coastguard, Police, Ambulance Service and First Responders on and around the 'unique' Morecambe Bay, Lake District and North Lancashire area.
Some of the team had a very interesting and useful day working together with West Kirby RNLI. The two Hagglunds were transported down to their station on the Dee side of the Wirral by low loader to do some side by side comparisons with an RNLI Land Rover Defender 110 Station Wagon fitted with Matttracks which exert a very low ground pressure which is useful on the wet sands. The 110 is used to pull the RNLI IRB to its launch sites which can be difficult to access. The day on the Dee estuary was a success for all and both teams learned a lot.
