It is with much sadness that the Range Rover Register (RRR) announces the death of long time club member and editor of the club magazine, Gary Blackmore, after a short battle with cancer.
Gary and Vivien Blackmore have been active club members since 1999. Both have held varying committee posts during this time, but it is as editor of the club magazine that Gary excelled and will be missed. In the words of the Chairman John Curtis, ‘he took a good newsletter and turned it into a fabulous magazine.’
Vivien and Gary who together were Wessex area club representatives, arranged and ran numerous club stands and events over the years. Gary was a well-loved member and will be missed by all of us greatly. Jason Clements summed Gary up well as a, ‘big man with a big heart and even bigger smile.’
He always had his camera close at hand and recorded club activity with an expert eye, ensuring that the club member’s activities were recorded. The club will be honouring his memory by instigating an annual award, ‘The Gary Blackmore Trophy’ for the best photograph taken by a club member at an event attended by the Register in that year. The RRR had discussed this with Gary prior to his death and he was truly touched by this award. As a club we could think of no better way to honour his memory than by encouraging members to continue recording club activity in the way Gary loved so much.
