Despite roaring passenger car sales, Land Rover won't be taking on Japanese or American manufacturers for a bigger slice of the commercial vehicle market anytime soon - that's the view of Land Rover's global brand director John Edwards.
LRO editor Mike Goodbun asked Edwards whether there will be a commercial variant of the Defender replacement. He says: 'It clearly is an option, something we can, and almost certainly will, look at. But while the brand would clearly lend itself to that, we've got to find the right business model in a fiercely competitive market. We haven't sold volume into that market for many years. People assume we do, but it's relatively niche… It's almost exclusively Defender, almost exclusively in Europe, and the vast majority of that in the UK.'
