The club story that really got under my skin this year was the aid convoy that the Land Rover Club of the Philippines sent to Tacloban in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan).
I would not want to diminish in any way the great work that our volunteers do in the UK but thankfully our guys seldom have to take on a first responder role. The horrors that the LRCP members have had to deal with will be carried with them forever.
However, out of all this devastation there was one image that shone through like a dazzling light. The joy brought to the children of Tacloban by a club member who became known as 'the Lollipop girl' - Justine Gamez. Her simple act of kindness of offering a smile and a sweet gave hope where there was only despair.
The image is also a reminder that being part of a club is not always about the vehicles we drive, but the people we meet and how they touch our lives.
