Out of 3185 vehicle thefts reported to the broker over the last two years, eight per cent were of Land Rovers, with Defenders and Series vehicles accounting for 73 per cent of those.
Although it’s likely that a disproportionately high number of Land Rover thefts are reported to Adrian Flux, due to its reputation as a Land Rover insurer, the figures still highlight the particular vulnerability of these models.
Dan Clark, the company’s Head of Commercial Vehicle Insurance, attributed the figures to the fact that many pre-2007 models lack the Thatcham-rated alarms that are commonly fitted to modern vehicles.
Dan adds: ‘We’ve released these statistics now to help make our Land Rover customers aware that their vehicle may be at an increased risk of theft compared to other cars. Hopefully, knowing how at risk their particular make of car is will encourage owners to look again at security and where their vehicles are being kept overnight, helping to lower the chances of theft.’
