The £23,710 base spec S model is being canned, so now your most affordable option will be the SE (which replaces the GS) at £27,765. That’s a price hike of nearly 15%.
On the other end of the spectrum, the flagship model is coming down in price, from £36,595 to £35,995. It’ll also now come with a panoramic sunroof as standard, instead of a cost option, making it comparably good value. Specify a panoramic roof on an Evoque and you’ll add a minimum of £790 to your bill.
The six current trim levels are being streamlined into three: SE, SE Tech (which replaces XS) and Metropolis (the new name for the HSE Lux). The TD4 engine will only be available with a manual ‘box, and only for the SE and SE Tech; the SD4 will be automatic only, but available on all spec levels. The eco-friendly 2WD eD4 seems to have gone quietly.
The 2015 model year Freelander 2 goes on sale June 9 this year, but is expected to bow out next year to be replaced by the Discovery Sport.
