The first Discovery birthday party was held in 2009 when a group of owners met on the Hoe to celebrate the vehicle’s 20th birthday. For the 21st birthday in 2010 it was decided to recreate the to re-enact the 1989 press launch and follow the same two-day itinerary.
A one-off custom Superwich is among the raffle prizes, along with an Alive Tuning remap, a Disco One Safe-T-Pedal from Shire Fabrications and from JGS4x4 a Discovery One snorkel and a compressor.
This year the aim is to make it the biggest and best birthday bash to date, with the following itinerary…
Morning: The Discoverys line up on Plymouth Hoe for a photo shoot.
1pm: head towards the Mount Edgcumbe estate via the Torpoint ferry, with a stop-over en-route in the only lay-by in south east Cornwall big enough for more than fifty Land Rovers. At Mount Edgcumbe, there will be an opportunity to have a look around the grounds.
Around 4pm: Drive in the Deer Park.
Evening: Social/Raffle/Charity Auction and meal - always a fun part of the event.
Morning: Owners meet at Tesco, Lee Mill, and set off for the Steam Railway Station at Buckfastleigh. It was here during the original launch that a Discovery was driven on the tracks pulling a train!
2pm: Convoy embarks on hour-long drive over the moor to the Two Bridges Hotel, where, on arrival, Devon cream teas will be ready in the lounge before members head off home.
