Offered in conjunction with Virgin Galactic, the competition is the first time anyone has been able to win the chance to travel beyond the earth’s atmosphere. The four rookie astronauts will experience ‘out-of-seat zero gravity’ and get a once-in-a-lifetime view of the earth from space.
An array of suitably weather-beaten celebrities are lending their countenances to the promotion: Richard Branson, Bear Grylls, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Virginia McKenna all make an appearance in Land Rover’s video filmed at Virgin Galactic’s New Mexico Spaceport, the launch site for future space missions, and featuring the new Discovery Sport.
‘Our heritage is rooted in adventure, exploration and a desire to go above and beyond,’ said Phil Popham, Jaguar Land Rover Group Marketing Director. ‘Nothing embodies this spirit of discovery more than a trip to space.’
Land Rover latest ambassador, British adventurer Bear Grylls, will be helping the winners prepare for their voyage. He said: ‘This prize really is the ultimate adventure of a lifetime. As humans, it is in our DNA to go where people have never been before, and now four friends have the opportunity to do that.’
Sound like your kind of thing? To enter the online competition, your task is to produce a 30-second video, or a still image, that demonstrates your spirit of adventure, and nominate three friends to join you on your journey into space. You then need to submit it via Land Rover’s website here.
The closing date is October 31, and the winners will be announced in December 2014.
