Land Rover made the film to show off the ‘adjustability, poise and body control’ of Range Rover Sport SVR. Its teaching method? Kill the electronic stability aids, hurl the SVR around Rockingham race circuit, and film the sideways action in beautiful slow-motion footage.
At the helm, and providing a chilled commentary, is Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity, Dr Mike Cross. And in the final moments we get an all-too-brief earful of that riotous V8.
The team behind the vehicle is JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations department. For the SVR model they’ve cranked up the power of the standard supercharged 5.0-litre V8 from 503bhp to 542bhp, making it the quickest production model ever to wear the Range Rover badge.
Just as importantly, Land Rover assures us the off-road ability hasn’t been compromised.
